JK 🤣 but we did enjoy a good hour watching them eat our trees. Then they got too close to the barn and the dogs scared them away.

The kids sat in the windows of the house watching them and asking so many questions. It’s so fun how close we can feel to them with how our house is situated on a hill. The moose are then below our porch and dining room window making it the perfect observation place. 🥰

Great way to start a slow Wednesday morning.

Gardening is more fun when there isn’t the pressure to perform.

Every year we test new ways to grow things or new varieties of plants.

This year it’s planting lettuce and carrots early in the greenhouse and soon onions outside. Could be a total fail but it could work too 🤷🏼‍♀️

We won’t know unless we try and learn some things alone the way. Either way there is always so much hope when you plant something in the dirt.

Makes for a good day ❤️

Made chicken stock yesterday and we try to use as much of our birds as possible, including the feet.

They are perfect for broth and add extra collagen too!

The finishing stuff isn’t the fun part but it’s that’s final push that get to the best past, the finished project and that makes it worth the extra labor.

Being able to stay home
Watching our kids learning and growing everyday
Growing and preserving our own food
Breaking up with chemicals in our house
Teaching our kids things we were not taught
Building multiple home based business
Showing them that hard work does pay off
Following Gods calling for our lives even if it’s different then the worlds

It’s not easy and everyday is different but it’s so worth it. I’ll never get this time back with the kids and that 💯% makes it worth the difficult moments.

60 days till spring ☀️

We wake up to fog everyday right now and it’s taking it’s toll. Can’t wait for more sun and busy days outside.

The kids were braver then me 🤪

It’s just overcast. EVERYDAY. We are definitely counting the days till spring and sun ☀️

The real celebration is figuring out how to upsize a pattern. This was my second attempt at an adult hat…the pattern I followed was sized for an adult but it fit my 2 year old 🤣

Home.

Where I always want to be. I’ve always been such a homebody and always create a space I truly love to be in, both cozy and functional.

Quitting my job in June was scary and a blessing that has taken sacrifice for our family. Being down an income isn’t always easy, especially this time a year but we are leaning new budgeting skills and the true meaning of wants vs needs.

We are working hard on our home based businesses and I have more time to dedicate to those which has been fun and way less stressful then before when we had to divide my time more.

It’s totally doable to work away from home and still homeschool and homestead but it takes more effort, longer days and planning. My days are slower and less stressful now but I will not forgot how hard I worked to stock our pantry while working.

Feeling extra grateful this winter to not have to drive an hour to work and spend these extra hours with our kids.

Coturnix quail eggs are small but packed with nutrients. Why they might be a great option:

High Protein - a singel egg is about 1.2 grams of protein, which is more per gram then a chicken egg.

The transition from June to now hasn’t been as easy I thought it would be but it’s been 100% worth it.

Learning to slow down and not be “so busy” all the time is work! Our social norms is rushing from one activity to the next, the next game, the next school event, the next work shift. It’s definitely easy to get caught in.

I’ve never subscribed to most “norms” but I found myself busy all the time and exhausted.

Quitting my job of over 10 years was HARD! It was scary to do what I felt called to do, not what was easy for those around me. It was scary to leave a steady income to building one at home that I can pass down to my kids one day.

It’s what I knew I needed but spent a few years pushing against. To feel good with not always going and doing has taken some time and a lot of adjusting and I’m not done yet. Some days are hard to be home-lost in my thoughts with the kids but some days are life giving and I get to see them learning and growing everyday!

Now to learn how to be a morning person when I don’t have a “job” to rush off to 😅

Truth bomb!

Might be hard to hear BUT might be just what you need to hear.

Change is uncomfortable and 100% a requirement to reach any goal you set. Even the smallest ones require you to be different then you were yesterday.

Its so interesting how our brains resort back to old ways in the name of “keeping us safe” and keeping us “comfortable” when its just as confining to remain in the same place we have been.

The dream doesn’t change. The gut feeling your suppose to do something great doesn’t go away by ignoring it. You might even feel stuck and guilty for not growing and making the changes,which is also uncomfortable but our minds think it’s the safer route.

By not changing your choosing to not grow into the person your suppose to be.

Stop thinking about the change you want to make and just do it. Choose today.

Love your daily coffee but trying to cut back on sugar? ☕🍬 Here’s a hack to still enjoy your daily coffee without the sugar crash!

I have to admit, we have been reducing sugar and cleaning up our nutrition for almost two years now…but I wasn’t willing to change my coffee habit. This lead to craving more sugar later in the day and totally derailing my results 😬

Recently we started a metabolism reset and the sugary coffee had to go. Enter our new favorite way to drink coffee and its so GOOD!!!

2 shots of espresso (or cold brew coffee)
2 scoops of chocolate protein powder (ours has 20 grams of protein and only 2 grams of sugar 🙌🏻 )

Mix with water then add ice

Top with heavy cream

Creamy chocolate goodness! I dont even miss my sugary coffee anymore. 🍫 😍

The goodbye.

Raising our own food also means saying goodbye to animals that you have raised and sometimes named because they have a purpose on the farm.

Sometimes it can be seen as heartless but that’s far from the truth. Knowing where our food comes from and how it was raised and cared for everyday while knowing the outcome takes so much heart. It takes being thankful beyond measure for the life of an animal who will feed not only our family but those who purchase from us as well.

It takes skillfully talking to our kids about how to extend love to the animals we raise but also knowing they will also fill the freezer.

It’s not for everyone and that’s not to say we don’t have hard days too. Todays bittersweet as we say goodbye to half our herd pigs, two who we did name and intend to keep longer but have decided their purpose here won’t be to expand our herd after all.

It’s hard when plans change but the goal is local grown pork not a field full of expensive pets 😬

Today we are thankful for the opportunity the Lord has given us to care for these Kune Kune pigs. Thankful for their time on our farm and the joy they brought us and also for the pork they will provide us and other local families.

Today we will continue to love the remaining herd and care for them just as we have always done. It’s bittersweet every time. The thankful goodbye.
