OUR STORY

1st generation homesteaders

My husband, Dustin, and I met in high school, engaged my senior year we have had our fair share of rough patches but all of those lessons have really led us here.

We always wanted land with a long driveway lined with trees where we could have animals, a garden and just space. Its taken us 10 years to get here after years of dreaming and almost thinking it was never going to happen.

We now have 2 children who we homeschool and are raising to know how to grow food to preserve and how to care for livestock. I did not grow up preserving food and everything we know now we taught ourselves. Many google searches and late nights researching, I hope to help others achieve their homesteading goals too.

ABOUT OUR FARM

Having a garden to stock a pantry is such an important skill that anyone can work towards and I think it's so important to pass on the skills of growing and preserving to the next generation.

We also have a herd of Kune Kune pigs which we adore plus 140 chickens (and counting), 24 quail (for now) 2 working dogs, 3 non working dogs as well as a large working garden that we use to grow a year's worth of produce we preserve. Food we grow for the year include green beans, tomatoes for salsa and sauce, onions, garlic, cucumbers for pickles, and winter squash. We also grow summer squash, carrots, lettuce, bell peppers, hot peppers, strawberries, raspberries and herbs.

We started small, mastered one vegetable first before adding more AND we ONLY grow what we eat.

SIMPLER TIMES

takes hard work.

Having our homestead is a lot of work, but 100% worth it. I have always felt I was born in the wrong time but have come to realize I was born in the perfect time to have so many modern tools to use to help us homestead as well as so many resources to learn from. I get to teach my children the value of hard work in real time, as they are watching us figure this out as we teach them too.
